How to Load A Moving Truck in 4 Easy Steps

Everything is bubble-wrapped, boxed and ready to go. The big day is finally here, it’s time to load the moving truck and begin your first day in your new home! Loading a moving truck may seem like a daunting task, a life-size puzzle! We’ll show you how to load a moving truck in 4 easy steps!

 Step One: Plan Accordingly

A little planning goes a long way when you’re making a move. Choosing the right size moving truck is the first step to success. Your local moving company can help you choose a fitting size. Choosing a truck that’s too small means more than one trip back and forth, and maybe tempting to cram in too many items. Good planning also involves the right tools. Moving blankets, straps, and extra padding will ensure your items arrive safely. Disassembling furniture can also save space and keep items from being damaged.

 Step Two: Distribute Weight Evenly

Loosely grouping your furniture and boxes by weight and size will make this step go even smoother. Large furniture, appliances, and heavy boxes go first. Line these heavy objects along the far wall of the truck closest to the driver. Balance the truck by placing other heavy items on opposite sides of the truck, or down the middle.

 Step Three: Organized Loading

Load Boxes and long items. Larger items like mattresses can be loaded against the wall, and rugs can be stored vertically to fill gaps between furniture. Smaller lighter boxes can be stacked on heavier ones if the content is not fragile.

Step Four: Secure Items Large and Small

Take the extra step to secure larger items with moving straps to keep them from moving around and getting damaged. Using packing supplies like furniture covers keeps items from becoming stained during transport. Smaller more fragile items can be safely placed in the gaps left by larger items, like under desks or between chair legs.

Whether you’re hiring a moving company or asking friends and family to help out, it’s important to load the moving truck safely and correctly to prevent injury to you and your helpers and to prevent damage to your belongings. Moving day can be exciting and easy with a little planning and the right supplies!
